YRbk Proofs from Clive

Had a cracking meeting with Clive from Duffields this morning, where he gave us our full colour proofs! (cue big cheers) Exciting times. Until we turned the front page and saw... a spelling mistake. On the first page. Oh dear.

Anyways so I talked with Fred, then called Clive and he very kindly told us it's fine and we can change it for no extra cost. So it's a simple case of re-doing the page, PDF it and stick it on disc for Clive to collect later today.

Oh and we forgot to put the college's name anywhere on the entire document. Whoops. Rookie mistake. Fortunately, with our extra page to change we can sneakily add the college's name and address to the front page so all is not lost.

Now I think it's fair to say, and Adam will concour, when we first saw the cover - our special glorious concept cover - didn't quite have the impact we had hoped. Now, for me, it's a grower, and I much prefer it now than I did the first time I saw it, and we talked with Joe Gilmore a little about it and the conclusion we came to was that people aren't going to scrutinise it's every detail, and that when we step back from it and be objective it actually stands up very well. Plus the link it will have to the courses end of year show will be more tangible once the show is up and the installation is freestanding.

TW Type books

Just printed some type books for my typefaces, there's one for each and they're 14cm square triple gate folded. Managed to get in to digital print late today with Hannah so i've printed everything I need to ahead of tomorrow leaving me with a fairly pointless print slot tomorrow morning. Actually I take that back, no print slot is pointless, I'm sure I can find something to print. Maybe try some different stocks.

Also printed the positives for screen printing the 4 t-shirts I need which was a mega bonus. Gonna try and get into screen print end of this week sometime, get it done.

YRbk Hello Clive...

Well well well we are very excited today, as we had Clive from Duffields come visit, but more importantly he's taken our year book to get printed!! Which is great news cos it means NO MORE CHANGES. So we gave Clive our disc an PDF and we'll leave the rest up to the very capable hands of the Duffields team.

YRbk Meeting 18/05

Well that was short lived...

We made a short visit to Inter. Dis. today to push ppl to give us the last bit of copy we need... and we came back being told the contents page is no longer working and they don't like it (it's not dynamic enough...more on that later) and the centre spread still isn't good enough and we need to change a number of other photos etc etc etc.

So a bad day then.

The proposed changes were to delete the contents page images and replace them with blank boxes with the students name inside. Because that would be more dynamic. Yes that is sarcasm. And yes that is what they told us.

Also Cheryl is still requesting we put more alumni pages in and more information about ex-students which is neither relevant or wanted by the current graduating year.

Fortunately Jaclyne is on our side and after an hour of talks she basically told Cheryl it can't be done. We have told them, after talks with Lorenzo, that the deadline is tomorrow, and that has become our stance for changes. We think we've compromised enough in todays changes which are switching the Introduction and the Contents pages around so there is more explaination than jumping straight into the, admittedly a little abstract, contents pages. And we've put text on the blank boxes for Intro etc.
