MVUF Map Legend
Every map needs a key. I've got the icons, I've got the colours, I've got the logo, so in reality its just a case of ordering the elements in a way that best fits both the map itself and the website. These layouts are basic and can be dropped in to various situations so its first setting the type with the images and the getting the colours and bars right.

The font i've chosen in the end is called London and it's a replica of the font used on signage throughout London and on directional road signs around the country. Its got a few very perculiar accents to it but it's better than plain old helvetica which I was using (only for demonstration purposes).

MVUF Deconstruction Of Trees
Had some feedback from the wife (as you do) and she wasnt a fan of the trees. For whatever reason she doesn't like the way they sit, with the rounded edges. (They are made of circles after all) She says it looks less professional. So just to be polite I've tried a few versions with less circular edges. I don't like em.
And then I got to thinking about why and for who I'm doing this map anyways, and the context it belongs in. This is for familes, for parents and kids, to help them navigate the farm, see what activities and animals are there and not to be like some kind of architects spec drawings. So I'm not quite so worried about the trees, its appropriate for its audience.

MVUF Logo
Now I've got the elements involved I want in there its just tweaking bits and pieces here and there to get to a final logo.
And we have a winner! Had a couple of comments and feedback and quite a few said its a little corporate, a little too much like an estate agents. Personally I'm happy with it, but I know it might need a bit of softening. Colour first:
I softened the edges a little with a special brushstroke in illustrator, and rounded the corners so its not quite so harsh.
MVUF Logo Dev
I think its fairly self explainatory whats going on here. As a larger part of the map and merch etc I've decided they need a logo. As of now they don't actually have one so it does provide a great opportunity to design one.
The concept is to have some kind of link to the farm, something that suggests what kind of place it is. The letters together didnt really work together, they're all a little too different but I do however think theres distance in the M and V together.
Working with just the M and V to try and connect the two. I've taken quite literally the words of the name to try to emulate some kind of valley/hill image
This is kind of where its come to - the house shape to represent the farm, and then the valley-esque M and V combination.
MVUF Map Generation
Colour. That is the question. So maybe it should be - Colour? Colour of both the map and the icons.
It seems the lighter the map, the easier it is to make out the icons, which is a good thing. I've basically just put a white transparent block over the top, at about 10%. The icons are still really difficult to see though, no matter the scale. So i've put small white circular background behind each to let them stand out a little more.
I've decided on using red and purple for the animal and building icons respectively. The colour stand out from the mass of green and aren't too in your face or bland.
YRbk Progressing
Hi Cheryl, and Jaclyne,
I writing this quick email to ask whether we have any additional copy
for the year book. This is a reminder of what we need for the first
week back after Easter, Tuesday 26th April (At The Latest!)
We still need
- details, copy and images for the work in public section.
- remaining copy and images for student profile pages.
- copy for the introduction and acknowledgements
- copy for the quotes pages
It really is imperative that we get this as soon as possible, or else
we are going to struggle to finish
Jaclyne is working like mad to get students to cooperate and be on
time with images and copy, as well as photoshoots. I do urge that
these students with deliverables outstanding will also be made aware
of this by the course tutors.
We have now got all the profile pages designed, and we are awaiting
details of the above to be able to get on with the rest of the
project.
Kind regards,
